150 Pictures of St. Albert Past Project

This project is for Classes in K - Grade 3 to participate in St. Albert's 150th Anniversary as follows:

1. Classes will select (be assigned) pages from the Pictorial History of St. Albert or from the History Books see (The Black Robe's Vision Volume One Index and The Black Robe's Vision Volume Two Index) to view.
   
2. Students will look at all the pages and select pictures  for the class to comment on.
3. Teachers will make comments to this post using the name/url option in the "comment as" box for name use the page # and for URL use the web address for the page. 
   
4. The teacher will then write comments in the "Post a Comment" box (using the template below) on the following:
1. What is the picture about?
2. Why the class choose the picture?
   
3. How does it relate to the following Social Studies Questions?  If it does not relate state why.
   
• Grade 1 What was life like back then (the exact date in the story or use founding and jubilee years like 1861 for St. Albert)?
  
• Grade 2 What has changed since then (mainly use pictures)?
• Grade 3 What was it like to be a global citizen back then? What was their quality of life?
• Grade 4 What does this story say about Alberta?
• Grade 5 What does this say about our Canadian Heritage?
• Grade 7 How does this story relate to the history of Canada, especially western Canada?
• Grade 6 What does this say about Government? (ex. What was government like in the Big Lake Settlement like in 1811? What kind of government did Father Lacombe introduce?)
• Grade 8 How does this story relate to intercultural contact? What was their worldview? How did our world view change? How has it changed compared to today?
• Grade 10 How are people in the story affected by globalization?
• Grade 9 How did the issues and economic situations people in the story faced affect their quality of life?
• Grade 11 How does this story relate to nationalism (ex. Father Lacombe's arrival at St Albert and the establishment of Alberta as a province)?
• Grade 12 How does this story relate to contemporary issues?
4. How does it relate to St. Albert's Heritage?  If it does not relate state why.

150 Pages of History Project

Every grade 4-12 student in St. Albert could participate in this project by each reading and commenting on one page of history.  The collective reading and commenting on history will provide future students with a summary and student comments on the history of St. Albert for use in LA, Social Studies and other projects.

Procedure:

Every public school in St. Albert will be contacted to commit to a minimum of 150 pages as follows:

1. Each school will commit to reading a specific number of pages.
1. Classes in the school can be assigned specific pages to read.
2. Students in the class can each be assigned a page.
3. The index to a history book can be used have students reading pages related to specific stories work as group to make comments on those pages See The Black Robe's Vision Volume One Index and The Black Robe's Vision Volume Two Index
2. Students will make comments to this post using the name/url option in the "comment as" box for name use the page # and for URL use the web address for the page.  
3. The students will then paste the template below into the "Post a Comment"  box and comment on the following:
1. Summary: Summarize what the page says (if your story is on more than one page then work with students who have the other pages for your summary put the summary in the start page for the story).
